You can send letters and packages to our YWAM base using the address that can be found on our Contact page. Please keep in mind the following points:
Sending to Students
- All students can both receive and send mail.
- When you send something for a student, please ensure that their name is clearly visible and written above or very close to the address.
- If a student receives mail while they are on the outreach phase of their school, their mail will be kept until they return (up to 2 mths).
- We are not responsible for any mail that arrives after a student has finished their school and left our base.
Mail Delays
Common: up to 3 months from other countries.
Airmail: within 1 month.
Paying to Receive Mail
Letters and Postcards: free.
Packages: Argentina has a system that charges taxes on all items sent through the mail, for both foreigners and residents alike. Each person can receive up to $25 USD each year for free.
If you exceed this amount, you will have to pay 50% of the value of the items received. For example: if you receive something that costs $20 USD then you will have to pay $10 USD to get it out of customs. The same thing for greater amounts; a digital camera worth $400 USD sent by mail will cost $200 USD in taxes before it is yours. This tax applies to all items received, including books and magazines (which were previously free).
NB: Materials that are of benefit for YWAM are free from this tax if we present a letter explaining the details of each item. If you are sending something like this, please contact us BEFORE sending it. (This would include items such as books, tracts, posters, and teaching materials).
Sending Electronic Items
You can bring computers, cameras, PDAs, mobile phones, and other electronic items into Argentina in your luggage without any problems at all. However if you are considering sending something here by mail or courier from another country then please keep in mind that it is very expensive in taxes and mail incorporates a high risk of damage or loss, and it is something that we do not recommend in any way.
Sending Mail from Argentina to Other Countries
The cost to send a letter or postcard to another country is the same, at $3 pesos ($1 USD) each. Sending packages is charged by weight and the method for sending (common or airmail).
For example: A small box that weight between 400-500gms would cost around $70 pesos ($22 USD) by ship and $120 pesos ($40 USD) by airmail. (Keep in mind that these costs are likely to change over time)
